Ethics and Society is an ethics education program that recruited high school students from low-income schools and charged them nothing for participation. As an instructor, I taught students a two-week crash course in moral theory and led them on site visits to see some applied ethics issues at work in the real world. Favorite site visits included Baylor College of Medicine, where students worked through real case studies in medical ethics, and Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, where students learned how refugees navigate the legal and logistical difficulties they face in finding a new home in the United States. In the third week, students researched their own applied ethics questions, which they presented in a culminating symposium.
